The Sixth Street Viaduct, also called the Sixth Street Bridge, is a long bridge in Los Angeles. It links Boyle Heights to the Downtown Arts District, crossing over the LA River, the 101 Freeway, local roads, and 18 railroad tracks. The old bridge, built in 1932, was torn down in January 2016.
A new bridge was designed by a team led by HNTB, chosen through a design competition. Like the old one, it's for cars, pedestrians, and now also has lanes for bicycles.
Underneath the new bridge, there's going to be a big park covering 12 acres. You can get to it by stairs or a cool spiral bike ramp. The park will have sports fields, bathrooms, a café, access to the LA River, art displays, and a plaza for events. The new bridge will not just be for getting around but also a place people want to visit in LA.
